My husband and I will be returning from a Viking cruise in Basel in July and want to travel by train to Lake Como. We are staying in Bellagio but are confused by all of the train options. Any suggestions?

Take the direct train from Basel to Milano Centrale.
Then take a regionale train from Milano Centrale to Varenna
Then take a ferry Varenna to Bellagio
or
Train from Basel to Como San Giovanni
And then a bus to Bellagio

Take a train from Milan to Como San Giovanni station. Walk to ferry slip , or take taxi there. Take ferry, high speed not as pleasant a ride but gets you there faster, to Bellagio. We have done this on fast ferry and regular ferry. Nice way to arrive, no traffic which can clog roads!
