No, its easy. You take a train from Luzern to Thalwil, then a train to Chur, then a train to Samedan, then a train to Pontresina. But you just buy a ticket from Luzern to Pontresina and go.
You cannot drive anywnere without making turns onto different streets along the way. Same principle applies to train travel.
Schedules are at www.sbb.ch/en
Sam has outlined it perfectly. Looks complicated, but it isn't. Get off one train and get on another. Plenty of time to change platforms.
Looks like a 4:22 trip.
For the last leg from Samedan to Pontresina, the bus (line 1 right in front of Samedan Station) is a better choice because the train station is slightly downhill from Pontresina.
If you have a Swiss Travel Pass (multiday pass for Swiss transportation) or a Saver Day Pass (single day pass, can be purchased sixty days in advance for lowest fares), the bus will be covered.
If not :
- SBB (Swiss railways) can sell a ticket including the bus connection
- you can buy a ticket to Samedan and pay the bus driver (a few CHF).
