Train tracks construction and busses

Good day, i am travelling to Switzerland in end-July and have been reading reports on train track repairs/constructions and use of buses. My travels includes following routes and we have kids and seniors.
- Zurich to Interlaken,
- Interlaken to Zermatt,
- Zermatt to St Moritz via Glacier express
- St Moritz to Milan via Bernia express and Trentitalia

Questions - how can i check whether these train routes are affected? And how good are the buses?
Thanks

www.sbb.ch/en will show you information on Zurich-Interlaken-Zermatt-St Moritz-Tirano for your specific travel dates.

Tirano-Milan is on Trenitalia. Trenitalia is not as forthcoming on future track work, but I have heard that this line will be closed for some portions and there will be replacement buses in the month of July.

In planning a trip from Milan to Tirano in September, I learned there will be train track maintenance from Lecco on Lake Como to Tirano Italy. The track work is scheduled from June 15 to September 14,2025.
Replacement buses for the trains will be provided while the track work is being done.

When you look up train times on SBB you can encounter two types of warning:

  • "Due to construction work, the timetable for this connection has been modified".

If you see this you can assume that the times you see in the planner are the actual times, and they do contain any replacement buses and/or reroutings that may be involved.

But sometimes you will get a message that implies that the alternative schedule and/or the rail replacement busses have not been planned yet. In that case just check again closer to departure.

And that is something you should always do anyway. Train travel is not like air travel. It is upon yourself to check the day prior to your travel if the schedule is still what you expect it to be.
