Not exactly. Switzerland has amazing public transportation, but trains don't go everywhere. You will have to catch a train to Interlaken, switch to another train to Lauterbrunnen, a bus to Stechelburg and then take the lift to Murren. There are no vehicles in this small mountain town. I did this coming from the direction of Paris so it may be possible to catch a train from Geneva directly to Lauterbrunnen, but from there it should be the same.

This website is very helpful with trains in general: http://www.seat61.com/Switzerland.htm

Specifically this swiss site: www.sbb.ch

Regular intercity services from Geneva to Bern, connecting with an intercity to Interlaken Ost. Then a local train from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen for Murren.

There are trains from anywhere in Switzerland to everywhere else. Trains connect, but they are designed to do that, so you can get from anywhere to anywhere. And all routes and all stations have at least one train per hour
Go to the Swiss Federal Railways website ( http://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html ). Enter Geneva (airport or city centre, you have a choice) to Mürren, date and time, and it will come up with the trains.

And the answer is (from Geneva city centre): 2 trains per hour, leaving at xx:12 and xx:42, takes 3h46.

P.S. In the title you say Mürren to Geneva, but in the text you say "from geneva Switzerland murren". Either way the same answer will apply, 2 trains per hour, 3h46 journey time.

jet,

Yes, there is absolutely a train on that route. Switzerland has an exceptional and coordinated transportation system which includes trains, buses and mountain lifts.

A bit of further information on that route.....

  • there are two routes to travel from Mürren to Lauterbrunnen - Cable car from Mürren to Gimmelwald to Stechelberg, and then Post Bus to Lauterbrunnen OR the mountain railway from Mürren and then cable car from Grütschalp to Lauterbrunnen (the Funicular was replaced by a cable car many years ago). I'd suggest the latter route.
  • from Lauterbrunnen you'll take the Berner Oberlandbahn to Interlaken Ost and then transfer to the train to Geneva. Depending on which train you choose, the trip from Interlaken to Geneva will be ~2H:48M with at least one change in Bern.

When you buy your tickets TO Mürren and FROM Mürren to Geneva, you'll need to specify which transportation route you'll be using. To travel via the cable car / mountain railway route, specify "Mürren BLM". When you disembark from the train in Lauterbrunnen, you'll see the cable car to Grütschalp, as it's right across the street.

Note that the main rail station in Geneva is Genève-Cornavin. There are about 10 stations listed in Geneva, so you'll need to know which one you're using when you buy your ticket. In addition to www.sbb.ch you can also use https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml (the German rail site) to check schedules in Switzerland.

Of course there is public transportation (trains, buses, boats, gondolas, funiculars, etc) from Geneva to Murren, and they're all seamlessly integrated. The trains are clean, organized, on time and the train personnel are always ready to help. Listen to the experts like Chris for directions.

The ride from Geneva to Murren will take you through the beautiful hillsides of vineyards and lakes and finally up to the most astounding views of the icy peaks of the Swiss Alps. You'll have a great time.
