train tickets needed with renting a car....

Here's our plans.... 15 day switzerland trip

2 days in zurich
2 days in appenzell
3 days in lucerne
4 days in wengen
2 days in Vevy
2 days in Bern
Leave from zurich
We are renting a car for the first 7 days......Would you recommend a swiss half day pass and 4 day OB pass starting day 8? Then pay as you go for the first 7 days? Or buy swiss half day pass for 15 days?
thoughts?

When is this trip? How many people?
The Swiss have a world-class rail system, one of the best anywhere. May I ask why you want a car? Gas, parking, and tolls are quite expensive, and there are many car- free villages/old town areas. I would recommend the Swiss Travel Pass ( is it 14 or 15 days?) and decide on the BO Pass once you have a weather forecast.
Also, Zurich pales in comparison to the other areas. Unless you have an early flight, it is easy to commute to the Zurich airport from Bern (1 hour train.) The train station is at the Zurich airport.
I'd cut a night from Zurich, add it to Wengen , and cut a night from Bern and add it to Lucerne.
This is one of my favorite countries, so I wish you a wonderful trip! Safe travels!

To determine if the BO Pass is worthwhile for you, consider the activities you plan to do while in Wengen. Look up the cost of these excursions on the SBB website and compare them to the cost of the pass. If you’re mainly hiking or staying at lower elevations, the pass is generally not worth it. However, if you plan to frequently ride gondolas, travel on trains, or take boat trips, the pass can be very beneficial.

You can apply the same approach to your remaining trips. Compare the costs to see which pass, if any, will provide you with savings.

Your itinerary looks wonderful, you will certainly see a variety of regions in Switzerland and get a good feel for what the country is like!
