Train Suggestion, Hiking and Swiss Day in the BO

Three questions and thank you in advance.

Arrive on 20 July. Zurich to Luzern for two days. May go to Pilatous or Rigi. Then to Berner Oberland for 3-4 nights. May then go to Geneva/Bern for a night or two then back to Luzern to head back home. Suggestions on what rail passes to purchase and if first class upgrade is worth it.

When in the BO we are staying in Murren. Active 50 yo couple interested in hiking. Favorites?

Finally, for those who have been in the BO for Swiss Day, suggestions on where to go/what to do?

My favorites are the walk from Murren down to Gimmelwald. Short, easy, spectacular scenery.

Another favorite is the panorama trail from männlichen to kleine scheidegg.

I also enjoy walking down in Lauterbrunnen.

Forum member shoe put together a great resource for the area:

Have a great trip!!!

Regarding August 1st, it looks like you will be in Luzern then, not in the BO, is that correct?
Lots of locations have celebrations already on the 31st, such as this:

We have family members who are in the restaurant business and it is their busiest day of the year, so be prepared for that. The majority of grocery stores will close early on the 31st and all day on August 1st.

People here really like to celebrate and there will be lots of fireworks, bonfires, etc. as long as it isn’t too hot and dry. We have had several years in which they were banned because of fire hazard.

Wherever you are there will be things happening, just take a look at the local tourism website of wherever you will be. Hope you enjoy it! 🇨🇭🎉

My husband and i are both mid-50s and i was fresh off a knee injury due to an incident with my dog, but when we were recently in Murren, we both enjoyed the walk down to Gimmelwald, the walk toward Grutschalp, and the walk down from Allmendhubel.

You should also spend a day in Lauterbrunnen and walk to Trummelbach Falls! it is all flat and a GORGEOUS walk, alongside waterfalls and over streams, just amazing!
