Where does the train from Amsterdam arrive in Zurich; then get to the Swiss Hotel.
Thanks,
Jean
All long-distance trains arrive at Zürich Hauptbanhof (main station), often abbreviated to Zürich HB.
What is the Swiss Hotel? Cannot find it.
Google Maps shows the Swisshotel in Zurich permanently closed. Pity, because it's in spitting distance of the train station.
Jean,
That's going to be a bit of a long trip, but I'd probably use the same method. The trains from Amsterdam to Zürich seem to arrive on platforms 12 / 13 / 14 (depending on which train you use).
Could you clarify the name of your hotel?
Our hotel has changed... now staying at the Sheraton Zurich on the way in and at the Radisson Blu, Zurich at the end of our tour!
The reason we wanted to take the train was to view the Countryside, so didn't want an overnight train. Hoping to get a direct train or with only 1 stop on the way to Zurich from Amsterdam as our tour doesn't start for another day so have lots of time to get to Zurich.
Thanks,
Jean
Jean,
Thanks for the additional information.
You can check all the rail schedules at https://www.bahn.com/en or https://www.sbb.ch/en/timetable.html . On the SBB website, there's a departure at 07:38, arriving Zürich at 16:00, with one change in Basel. There's a slightly shorter connection departing at 08:15, however that requires a change at Gare du Nord in Paris, and then a taxi ride to Gare du Lyon to connect with the next train so it's more of a nuisance. The departure with the change in Basel will be far easier.
Although it will be a long day, you'll certainly be able to see lots of scenery and it should be a relaxing trip. You should be able to buy rail tickets at Amsterdam Centraal, or online on the SBB website.
If you decide on the early departure, you may want to buy a sandwich and beverage for breakfast at Amsterdam Centraal before you board your train (or perhaps your Amsterdam hotel can pack a "bag lunch" for you). There will likely be a dining car on your train but those tend to be more expensive. You may have to wear a mask during your entire rail journey. I didn't have time to research the current regulations on that.
I didn't check to see how far your two hotels in Zürich are from the station. If they're beyond walking distance, I'd just take a cab.
If they're beyond walking distance, I'd just take a cab.
I didn't check either, but I'd suggest the tram if they are close to a tram stop.
Sheraton Zurich (if the one in town) is an easy ride on the number 4 or 17 trams, door to door.
I think the only Radisson Blu in Zurich is at the airport.
Thanks all, especially Ken for the train timetable.
You're all very helpful!
Jean
The Radisson Blu is attached to the airport, which is attached to the ZRH train station. So easy and convenient. Just be sure your reservation is at the Radisson BLU, and not the Radisson, which is nearby the airport, but not attached to the terminal. FYI, if testing to return to the US is still required when your are traveling, there is a test center at the hotel which gives free 15 minute antigen tests that are acceptable for travel.
