Train station in Bern to go to Zurich airport

Hi! My parents are going from Bern to Zurich Airport on the Best of Switzerland in 12 days tour. When I go to the SBB website there are multiple Bern train stations, is there a specific train station in Bern that will take us to Zurich airport train station or will all train stations get us to the airport station? The hotel we will be traveling from is hotel Baren AM Bundesplatz in Bern. Our flight is in Zurich at 11:45Am and so we are hoping to be in Zurich airport at 930am.

Bottom line- which train station do I buy the tickets for in Bern?

The hotel is a short walk from the main train station, that is the Hauptbahnhof. The train goes directy from the HBF to the airport (Flughafen).

A good way to figure which station to use is to consult Google Maps. Find the hotel then search for the closest train station.

I took this tour a couple years ago - wonderful! The hotel was very near the main train station, maybe a 7-10 minute walk. There’s no need to buy tickets in advance as the trains between Bern and the Zurich airport run often. I walked over to the train station during the free time on the last full tour day and bought my ticket so I wouldn’t have to deal with that on travel day while watching my luggage. I also checked out where the train tracks were and generally got oriented to the station which is quite large.

The tour guide will likely point out the station during the orientation walk. I have always found the RS guides more than willing to help with departing travel arrangements.

is the flight to return home or to continue the holiday elsewhere in Europe? If a short haul in Europe I think your arrival time at the airport is about right. But for a transatlantic flight home you may be happier with the normal suggested time of 3 hours prior to departure.

The SBB planner is a public transport planner, that contains every public transport stop in the country. So every single bus and tram stop in Bern is in there as well.

But when you start typing in a place name the main station is usually shown on top, and in most case the station name is just the name of the town. So in Bern the main station is called, unsurprisingly, "Bern". In Bern the station does not have the suffix "hauptbahnhof", only Zürich has a hautpbahnhof.

But you can of course travel to Zurich airport from any public transport stop in the country. That is the beauty of a comprehensive public transit system. If you are not sure what the closest public transit stop to your location is you can actually just type in a steet address.

But from the Bundesplatz is is just a short walk to the main station, where there are train to the airport every half hour.

I know this isn't favored but they could also spend the night at an airport hotel like the Radisson or Hilton, less stress
