Hello fellow travelers, just wondering if I would need advanced reservations for the trains in Switzerland in late september or early october. Hoping to follow Rick's 2 weeks in Switzerland by train. Also, would hotel reservations be necessary? Hoping to keep plans flexible. Thanks for any advice or opinions.
Most trains in Switzerland don’t take reservations. The exceptions are the routes with the special panoramic cars (Bernina Express, Glacier Express, etc).
Hotel reservations are definitely recommended, unless you’re not too picky on location, price, or quality.
Switzerland gets a lot of travelers in September, so you only need hotel reservations if you care about the price you pay for accommodations or where you stay.
If you’re talking about this fall, you might want to take a look at booking.com to see what’s still available.
