Train Pass Itenerary help

Hi,
I think I have determined the Half fare pass and BO pass will be best for our needs. I'm uncertain if I will need a 6d or 8d BO pass based on the itenerary as I'm not sure which routes I must use BO vs what half fare covers. Quick assistance would be very appreciated. Do I need BO pass to get to/from Wengen on day 1 and day 7 or is that covered with just the swiss half fare? Thanks!

2 adults, 2 kids (12yo)
Day 1: ZUR to Wengen (arrive 4pm).
Days 2-6: Exploring BO area
Day 7: Depart Wengen to Montceau-les-Mines France (depart 7am)

look at that map and you will see where the pass ends and where you need to pick up with the 1/2 fare. It doesn't go to France or Zürich

It does go as far as Bern and Luzern

@Nigel thanks! I will be purchasing the Swiss Half fare pass also. However, I was wondering if I can get away with a 6d BO pass since my arrival and departure days will likley not include anything local in BO, just getting there and leaving. Or do I need BO pass to even get to the stops from say interlakken to Wengen even with a ticket purchased in ZUR airport with our half fare cards?? This will help determine if I need the extra 2days of the BO pass vs just the 6d BO pass.

I would buy a 6 day BO Regional Pass for use on your days 2 thru 7.

Day 1, buy Zürich to Wengen using your HFC. Day 7, use your BO pass as far as it will take you (Bern) and from that point, buy your ticket t- France.

You can get way into the weeds with analysis if you want to figure out exactly the most economical combo. For example, you might be able to buy a Saver fare from SBB that takes you from Wengen to your French destination and applying your HFC as far as the closest border town. The SBB website will calculate it. In that case, you’d buy Zürich to Luzern and use your BO pass from there to Wengen. But without doing too much analysis, I think my recommendation will be a decent value.

Do download the map Nigel references and also be sure to have the SBB app on your phone.

@Laurel- this sounds like what I was sorta thinking may work with the 6d pass. Do I buy the french ticket in Bern or is that something I should look to do ahead of time? I'm sure we will figure it out either way... lol. Thanks for taking the time to post. That was helpful!

You could in theory buy your Bern - Montceau - etc. ticket in Wengen (the ticket office there sells international tickets). You do not have to be in the starting station of your trip to buy a train ticket.

However this trip involves a TGV from Basel to Dijon, and those are cheaper when bought in advance. (And since SNCF has reduced the number of trains they run they sometimes sell out...)

So buy in advance on www.sbb.ch
