Wondering if my flight is 7:10a out of Zurich airport, can I stay downtown Zurich and get a train on Sunday morning early enough to be at airport by 5:30a? I can't seem to find what time trains begin in morning. Thank you
The first train departs Zurich Hbf at 5:00 daily to arrive at 5:15, per the DB link at How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online , and www.sbb.ch should say the same. ON weekends, there's one earlier departure but it requires a connection and takes longer.
The next question is whether 5:30 is early enough. Is that the time recommended by your airline? Is it a flight within Europe or direct to another continent? Most airports aren't well staffed before 5:00, but 5:00 might be the better time to be there.
Go to www.sbb.ch/en and punch in any date that is a Sunday. First train is at 5:02 and takes 12 minutes.
heidi,
You can easily stay in Zürich and get to the airport early. The first train appears to depart at 05:02, arriving the airport at 05:14. I'd suggest staying close to the main station in Zürich, and you might have a look at Hotel Walhalla which is only about a three minute walk to the main station.
You can find all the train schedules you'll ever need at Bahn.de or the Swiss rail website, SBB.ch.
Thank you.
We are flying from Zurich to Copenhagen to San Francisco. Like I said flight is at 7:10a, I would have thought to be there at least 2 hours prior however it says "last check in" 6:25a. That seemed very late to me given security lines etc. I also prefer not to get there and sit around waiting:). This is on Scandinavian Air. So I am wondering then if 5:15 is sufficient?
Or should I plan to stay by airport?
I think 5:15 would be plenty. For one, it is a "domestic" flight (flight to another Schengen destination) to Copenhagen. Two, there probably won't even be anyone at the counter to check you in before 5:00.
That sound good. Thank you all again for your help.
Good day
Heidi
