Has anyone taken the nonstop train from Zurich to Salzburg? I'm staying in Zurich for a few days before my tour begins in Salzburg.
Any suggests as to which train to take....nonstop about 5 hours I think.
Its not nonstop, but it is direct, making 9 stops between Zurich and Salzburg. It is operated by OeBB, the Austrian National Railway under the brand name Railjet. It goes every 2 hours from 6:40 am to 6:40 pm, so you take the one that suits your schedule.
And you can buy your ticket at www.oebb.at
Thank you for this information. I wonder if I need to purchase ahead of time or on that day?
Buying in advance will save you a bit of money.
There are trains every two hours, they are operated by SBB in Switzerland and ÖBB in Austria. There is one EC train, which is not direct, and then a whole slew of RJ trains. As mentioned, every hour.
You can book both with SBB and ÖBB. Bookings do not automatically include reservations, so make sure to add one. ÖBB usually has the cheapest fares, but in both cases you will travel on the same train.
