easy question for all of you--is there a direct train from Zurich airport to Geneva or do I have to go to Zurich main station and transfer? TIA!
Alyssa,
YES, there are some direct trains from Zürich Flughafen to Geneve, with a travel time of 3 hours. There are others with one change at Zürich HB with about the same travel time. The trains are frequent so you should be able to connect with one of the direct departures. Note that your destination station will likely be Genève-Cornavin, which is the main station in Geneva.
Use the German Rail query webpage to find schedules. It looks like there is a direct ICs to Geneva every hour (at 18 past the hour). The trains stops in Zürich HB on the way.
Including the IC from the airport, there are two ICs every hour from the Zürich HB. You can take a regional train from the airport to the HB at 43 past to catch the second IC.
If you are going on to the Geneva airport, most trains continue on to there as their last stop.
Hi, Alyssa. There are two trains every hour from Zurich Airport to Geneva. One goes direct (leaves the airport at 18 after the hour) and the other requires a train change at Zurich's main station (leaves the airport at 43 after the hour, ten minute layover between trains). Both trips take three hours. You can find schedules on the Swiss rail (SBB) website: http://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html. If you're not using a rail pass, you should look into the Supersaver fares. If you have an iPhone, you can find all of this information on the SBB app, which also enables you to buy tickets on your phone that don't require printing out - the people who check for tickets just scan your QR code. I hope this helps! Have a nice trip.
