Train from Zurich Airport to Lucerne

We will be taking the train from Zurich Airport to Lucerne, and also from Lucerne to Montreux, with a few day trips here and there.

I'm guessing we should download the SBB app. Should we purchase tickets ahead of time? Also, should we buy the Swiss Travel Pass or the Swiss Half Fare Card? We will be there for 5 days.

I'm still searching for topics, but I thought I'd also ask.

*Any travel tips are also welcome :)

When we took the train from Zurich to Lucerne a few years ago, we just bought the tickets before boarding the train. There is a kiosk on the lower level where you can do this. We did not purchase ahead of time, because we were concerned that we might have travel delays. There was also a person to help if you have questions.

Whether you get a Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card depends entirely on what you plan to do.
