train from Milan to Tirano

Hello All,

I have a question. I want to book a early morning train from Milan to Tirano(tha train that starts from Milan at 6:20am and reach Tirano at 8:52 am , so that we can take Bernina Express(that starts at 10:00am) to Chur and then take train from Chur to Zurich. But the problem is , when I look at trenitali at the follwing link: https://www.lefrecce.it/B2CWeb/search.do?parameter=searchOutputViewer&cFID=KuN25EbWICAF
it looks like there is nothing available for that time.

But when I look at sbb, it says its available for 12 CHF: https://www.sbb.ch/ticketshop/b2c/ipsSchritt_2_0.do

I am confused now, whether its available or not. Could anyone please help and let me know what am I missing here?

Thanks,
Megha

Milan and Tirano are both in Italy, and the route is served by Italian Railways. You have posted under Switzerland.

As it is an Italian train, I would look first on the Italian Railways website: http://www.trenitalia.com (not SBB)
This shows (for tomorrow), departures from Milano Centrale at 06:20 (arriving Tirano at 08:52), then at 07:20, 08:20 and every hour thereafter.
It also shows it is a "Regionale" and the fare is €11.50 2nd class or €17.50 1st class. You cannot book Regionale trains in advance, there is no seat reservation possible and no price advantage in buying tickets over the internet. Just go to the station, buy a ticket, stamp it (don't forget to do this) and get on the train.

On trenitalia you need to select for "all trains" instead of the Frecce trains. It looks like you got into the Frecce train area.

This train is actually run by TreNord and you can buy tickets on their website:

Since it is a regional train, there is no reason to book in advance. It is entirely unreserved, so just get there when they spot the train on the platform, validate your ticket, and take a seat.

I think some people like to have tickets in hand rather than deal with ticket machines or long lines at the ticket window, especially at Milano Centrale.

thank you all. I tried on trenitalia again and don't see any option to reserve train from milan to Tirano. As Sam mentioned, since its regional train, looks like we cannot book it in advance. So I will just go. Please correct me if this is not the case, ie, if I can book regional trains online too.

Thank you,

You can buy on line but it restricts you to a certain time window, whereas if bought from a machine or a ticket window, they are good virtually anytime. The act of validating it in a stamping machine on the platform activates the ticket and it is good for a few hours to complete your journey.
You can buy the tickets anywhere in Italy before hand. Then, as I said, you validate before boarding.

thank you so much for your prompt response... I really appreciate it.
Could you please answer one more questions. I am really confused if the Bernina express with panoramic carts runs at 2:26 only?
At this website: http://www.seat61.com/BerninaExpress.htm#.VdK2RPnF-So , its says pqanoramic carts BE runs at only 2:26pm from Tirano .

But at rhb website, i see three timings for BE , the first one starts at 10:02am. Will this one have panoramic carts as well?

Please let me know.

Thank you so much!
