Any input is appreciated..is there a train to Chamonix from Geneva in a short amount of time? I have heard you can take a bus and that supposedly is an hour.

The bus is the right option there is no direct train

According to bahn.de the train involves 2 changes and takes 3 hrs 12 minutes. I advise take the shuttle bus, they state it takes one hour but my mid-morning trip was only 45 minutes.

There is no train service. The times and prices for the bus are here: https://www.chamonix.net/english/travel/switzerland/bus
The bus leaves from Geneva airport, not the city centre. I assume that is what you want.

You definitely can go to-from Chamonix and Geneva by train. But it does take longer.
I decided to see Lake Geneva from the train a few years ago. It's a very scenic cogwheel train from Chamonix to the valley floor. Then, a nice train trip along the lake. If you're not pressed for time, the train is really nice.
