Train from Geneva to Annecy

I found an older thread that states the train from City Center-Geneva to Annecy would be: "Leman Express". I see the timetables on the website, but I guess you cannot pre-purchase tickets? Is that right? You buy them onsite? However, is there a way to find out the cost. Does anyone had experience with this? Thanks.

hey hey april
where are you staying in annecy and for how many days?
we spent 2 days in geneva and took a taxi to annecy, shared the cost with my friend (E90 4 years ago). yes it's more than the bus or train but was very happy with them and not worry about lugging luggage onto train.
spent 6 days in annecy and loved it, any question of things to see and do feel free to ask.

This is why i LOVE these message boards. Amazing. I thought you had to go back to the airport to catch the bus, which i was trying to avoid. I'm actually planning this trip for my daughter and her friend.

"Princess", my neighbor from the Bay Area: do you have any good restaurant or attraction recommendations in Annecy? :-)

hey hey April
you're welcome wanting some ideas and info about annecy. these are my own feelings and ideas, i've had several posters tell me it's good for a day, spend more time somewhere else, "do it my way or the highway!" it's crazy. i've seen enough of statues, churches, attractions, museums that i wanted more fun things to do. this will probably be a "novel" ha ha but gives your daughter & friend to do some research and it's up to them to decide.

transportation geneva to annecy, put dates & times in for rates. always keep in mine check-in to accomodations is 2-4pm and check-out 10-11am. many people leave early morning and have to wait hours for check in unless approval for early check in and get very upset, i've seen it happen.
do they have a place to stay already in annecy? there really isn't high and low seasons anymore, so many people travel all year long, annecy can get busy (many germans/austria/swiss). i've noticed more and more new people on the boards with some off the wall requests hoping to see the same places everyone else wants to go to, want it very budget, stay away from crowds, why is so expensive??? it's expensive everywhere and things don't turn out the way you hope.

open air market city center (big days sunday tuesday friday mornings), we enjoyed this, so much to see, do, taste, lots of people roaming through gorgeous canals. we stopped at a small artist's shop and bought small oil picture for a memory. many cafes/restaurants inside and outside to sit and enjoy that french air & glass of wine

we used her for taxi geneva to annecy (35 minutes) train was gonna take 2 1/2 hours, my fried and i said NO WAY.
we also hired her for a 5 hour private tour with annecy and out to the small villages around the lake. started early morning, had a lunch reserved at la ferme de la charbonniere near menthon st bernard. there is a castle there that walt disney visited and was a replica of snow white's castle
cow farm with small restaurant looking through glass floors to see them down below in the hay. they use the milk to make speciall cheese of that area. click restoration for special rixed prixe for tartiflette or rebochannade cheese. brings like a pizza oven to table to melt cheese to put on potatoes/bread with ice cream for dessert. something totally different and great.
next onto col de la forclaz (one of my favorites), cows wearing cowbells making wonder music in the hills, swiss houses along the way, hang gliders soaring right above you and the lake. then back to annecy. was a great tour, gaelle owns the company, speaks english well and answers email promptly. let her devise our tour of things we wanted, made a plan and emailed back to us. was so worth it to see more of the lake and not driving. me & friend shared cost. then train back to paris for a week.

Princess Pupule, thank you for this information. Three of us in our 70s will be going in late September. If we can get UN tickets for 9/29, we will probably go for a day trip from Geneva. Due to renovations, tickets will only be released on the 20th of each month.

Would a Sunday in Annecy be a good day? I thought since Annacy was touristy, many places would then be open.

hey hey Gail (close by neighbor)
i would say go. they have the open air market which was fabulous. so many things, food, produce, local artisans, bakeries are they to taste or buy.
annecy-town.com/ the markets of annecy
click the sunday markets of annecy. roam around the gorgeous canals and the shops along the way, stop and have lunch. we loved our fondue small in the hole family restaurant. go early, the market opens at 7am. may think it's touristy but it's a fun time. we ran into germans, austrians, swiss and many locals with their kids and dogs.

i think they are at the train station, reserve ahead of time. they go to annecy train station, i would take a taxi from the train center to old town, not knowing east from west or north from south. let taxi take care of you. when done visiting find a taxi back to train/bus station then back to geneva
different for us since we hired taxi from geneva to annecy, door to door to our accomodations. look and see what taxi in geneva would take you (about 35 minutes). your decision what important and a priority. with knowing about this trip. paris to annecy to paris, i saved money every week from paycheck to my "go go account" for spending money.
while in geneva go to the flower clock in town it's so pretty. after our photo stop we walked to the outdoor restaurant on the lake and had wine, chacuterie board and people watch onto the lake. took a boat ride also. did not really care for geneva. it's a business town and quiet at night. also know that switzerland is one of the most expensive countries.
if you look at many posts on the forum in each country, people all want to see the same things, towns/villages. that's where you will see lots of tourists, crowds, long lines and waits. low season is not in place anymore, there are so many travelers nowdays that travel all year long. we use to travel late september early october when kids were in school, parents back at work. not anymore. lots of changes, things are so much more expensive, supply and demand for accomodations, all over the world, even in your own backyard,
just raise your budget expectations, so many want budget or "reasonable" prices. we are all trying to make a living. i just go with the flow, travel with 2, 3, or 4 great friends sharing costs and go to lesser known places that aren't as crowded.
have a great trip. where is your next stop after annecy? any more questions just ask

Yes, my son lived in Switzerland and I know it is expensive. We've been to Geneva before but stayed in Carouge - it is very cute!
We are only going to Geneva as it will be after a 9 day stay in Adelboden and we want to tour the UN.

Our next stop is Arbois, in the Jura region of France. None of us have been to that area of France and we want to wine and cheese taste before 6 days in Paris.

Thank you for your detailed response!
