Hello, we are doing a Christmas market tour that starts in Basel and ends in Milan. We would like to extend our stay. Was wondering what towns we can visit on our own will already be going to lugamo and lucerne. Best mode of transportation prefer not to rent a car but will take suggestions

How long is your trip? You already have four cities - Basel, Lucerne (Luzern), Lugano, and Milan (Milano). Each of these can make a fine base for visiting smaller nearby towns to extend the trip and each of these locations is conveniently close (1 to 2 hours) on a fast train.

Since your Christmas market tour ends in Milan, why not stay in northern Italy and visit any number of places - Turin, Brescia, Padua, Bologna, Verona, Ravenna. (If you use the search bar on main RS page, just write city name & Forum, lots of info.) FYI Christmas Eve things close early and Christmas Day many things will be closed. Cities around Lake Geneva (Montreux, Lausanne and Geneva itself), with Christmas markets and pretty view of the lake. No market, but with the Matterhorn and accessible by train is Zermatt. But these are all not on your current itinerary, as you'll go further east I think.
