Hi - we are doing the My Way Alpine Europe in 12 Days tour July 13-24. There is a shuttle we can hire to drive us from Chamonix to the Geneva airport. We fly out the following morning on July 25. Should we stay in a hotel by the Geneva airport or closer to the city center? I'm not sure where the shuttle will drop us off and we'd like to see Geneva.

The Geneva airport is less than a 15 minute drive into the city center or a 7 minute train, so you can drop your bags off at a hotel in the city or at the airport and then take public transportation to where you want to see, it doesn't really matter.

Flix bus also operates between Chamonix and both Geneva City Center and some of the buses go to GVA airport. I believe that if you are staying in GVA in a hotel, you are entitled to a free day pass for the trams and trains. When I did this two years ago, the hotel sent an email with it if I remember correctly. This way you can easily take a tram to the airport the next day.
I too would prefer staying in town though the hotels by the airport seem to be much cheaper and only a short ride into town.

A lot of the hotels that advertise as being "near the airport" are in France. And you get there using a shuttle.
I would stay in the city, and have the shuttle drop you off in the city centre.
