Top Spots in and near Berner Oberland

Members of this forum have recommended staying several days in the Berner Oberland region. I would love to her additional thoughts on top places to visit for a 4-5 day trip in or nearby. We will head to Lucerne for a few days afterwards. We are traveling in early September - just my husband and myself.

Thanks!

Two unmissable places in the Lauterbrunnen valley are the Schilthorn (best views) and Trummelbachfalle (waterfall inside a cave).

for the Meiringen mentioned earlier -

the statue of Sherlock Holmes in the centre

Reichenbach Falls mentioned in Sherlock Holmes' greatest battle to the death - this is the real deal. From the station you can hike up the steep cliff to the top where the significant waterfall starts, ride a Postbus to above, or take the ancient funicular about 2/3 of the way up. Easy walk from the station and the town centre to the base of the waterfall.

Aareschlucht - the Aare river runs through this narrow gorge, you can hike through or catch a train from near the station to get to the other end.

And a lovely town and stop on the train between Interlaken Ost and Luzern via the Brünig Pass on the very scenic cogwheel train.
