Tirano to Chur: what are the best stops to get off to explore?

St Moritz is probably the one place I would avoid. Assuming you are taking regional trains. Alp Gruem is one spot. Pontresina is a place where you will change trains to shortcut St Moritz.

Berguen has a quaint village with the Albula Railway Museum.

Yep all regional trains. I went Chur to Tirano the first time but I did not have opportunity to get off.

You could try Bernini Diavolezza, and either hang out and enjoy the scenery for an hour, or if yout connection timings permit, take the (pricey) cable car up to the peak and back.

I stopped in Pontresina to explore and eat a late lunch. It is scenic and I found a really nice bakery cafe. Coming from Tirano, Pontresina is just beore St Moritz. Alp Grun (sp?) looked like it might be a good stop to see the glacier. A number of hikers got on and off there. There were some posts on this forum mentioning Samedan. If you put it in the search bar, you should be able to find them. The RS Switzerland guidebook provides some information on things to do, places to eat and sleep and some of the stops. I only traveled from Tirano to Pontresina and back to Varenna for a day trip so I don't know about the stops beyond that to Chur.

+1 for Poschiavo and Bergün, both lovely villages (quite different from each other).

Any good spots for lunch in Tirano? Going to be in Pontresina and thinking about that for a train trip.

We just went to one of the pizzerias near the RhB station. Pizzerias serve more than just pizza, and it was a pretty hood lunch as I remember.

BTW, all the shops in Tirano are closed between noon and 2 pm, so keep that in mind if you want to do any shopping.

Train from Chur to Tirano does not go through St Moritz.

We stopped only at Alp Grum, but its pretty desolate there.
