Hi- we will be staying in Wengen for 2 nights in mid-September and hope the weather will allow us to go to the Jungfrau. Since I'm trying to plan our time in the area to maximize all the incredible things to see and do, I was wondering how much of our day we need to plan on for this adventure?
I understand that the early ride up has advantages in less traffic and lower fees and possibly clearer skies; do the lower fees still apply if we are using the Half Fare card?
How early is early; at what time do those discounts stop applying because we aren't early enough?
Thanks so much!
Shirley
The "Good Morning" ticket has no half fare reduction. It applies to the 8 am and 8:30 am departures from Kleine Scheidegg, and must return on the 1 pm train at the latest. Price is 135 chf round trip. If you have a half fare card, just go that way for the standard 81.50 chf anytime. It will take an hour and a half from Wengen to get to the top.
Thanks so much, Sam and Chris! Great info!
I know that some of our travelers who were pressed for time have visited Schilthorn first thing in the morning and Jungfraujoch later the same day. It's not ideal to do both biggies on the same day, and you'd want the clearest vista for each, but it indicates that you'd have time for a leisurely decent or stop on the way.
