Has anyone traveled (day trip) from Lugano to any of the "Fairytale Towns" in Ticino....Lavertezzo, Sonogno, Foroglio, Rasa, Giornico? How did you do that using public transportation? Please share experience.
I went from Lugano to Lavertezzo last fall. I took the train to Tenero and transferred to bus 321 across the street from the train station.

Sonogno is at the end of the scenic Val Verzasca Postbus route (321). The bus departs from the Locarno rail station; you can get from Lugano to Locarno by train. The Val Verzasca is most scenic after rainy periods, when the little water falls are flowing.
You should be able to find public-transit routes for all the places you list on the SBB website. Just remember that the default fares shown there assume the traveler has a Half-Fare card.
One thing--buses and trains arriving in this area are not 100% punctual, unlike trains going to major cities like Zurich and Geneva.
Budget some slack in your itinerary. Bring your swimsuit.
