Thoughts on Swiss Flexi pass?

Hi fellow travelers,

We will be visiting Switzerland/France this September - here's our itinerary.

Stop over in Reykjavik for 1 night
Fly to Geneva - 2 nights
Train to Lausanne - 3 nights (maybe take ferry over to Evian for day visit)
Train to Besancon, France - 2 nights
Train to Colmar, France - 2 nights
Train to Strasbourg, France - 2 nights
Train to Zurich, 2 nights - fly back to US from there.

This will be our 4th visit to Switzerland so we have been to Grindelwald, Lake Lugano, Interlaken,
Spiez, Thun, Montreux, Bern, Gstaad, Luzern, and Locarno.

My spouse thinks we should just pay individually for first class tickets instead of purchasing a Swiss train pass based on our itinerary. Thoughts?

Also, would you recommend a day trip to Basel? Not that we need to add other places - but I am a planner and like to have options just in case.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Purchase the 1/2 fare card at a minimum. As an example, the train fare for a one-way first class ticket from Geneva Airport to Lausanne Gare is 48chf per person without the card. You will also receive 1/2 fare on the boats and busses you may use.
