Things to do in Wengen

We will be staying there June1 -6. We are not hikers but love great scenery and restuarants. More than willing to travel in the BO area. What are some highlights we should consider as far as scenery and food. Thanks!

Will you have a Swiss Travel Pass or a Berner Oberland Pass? That information may help people make better suggestions. A BO Pass will cover most of the mountain lifts in the area, so you could see a lot by riding around on those. A Swiss Travel Pass will cover trains and boats if you want to travel lower down.

Probably a BO. We may make a trip to the Matterhorn, but it is not a priority.

OK. You could get a lot of use from a Berner Oberland Pass, doing things like this:

Cablecar from Wengen up to Männlichen, riding on top if you choose (5€ extra for that, not on the BO Pass AFAIK:

Männlichen is a ridge that divides the Lauterbrunnen Valley from the valley where the town of Grindelwald lies. From the top of the cablecar, you have several options. I know you said no hiking but maybe this easy walk along the top of the ridge would be scenic enough to interest you:

From the end at Kleine Scheidegg, you can ride the train back down to Wengen, or better yet ride the train the other way down to Grindelwald to have a look around there. You can also reach Grindelwald directly from the Männlichen cablecar with the walk, using the gondola for the very scenic ride down to the village. Here is a photo of the gondola and the view:

Grindelwald offers a good selection of nice restaurants, most of them associated with hotels. You might find one you like for a nice dinner, then ride the regular train (not the gondola and cablecar) back to Wengen afterwards.
Two of the best (and most scenic) dinners we have enjoyed in Switzerland were in Grindelwald, on the terrace at Hotel Spinne, and the deck at Hotel Bodmi above town.

However, our very favorite dinner restaurant in Switzerland is right in Wengen, at Hotel Bären. Their menu is seasonal, based on what is fresh and available locally, but this is an example:

Murren? Jungfrau? Schilthorn? Falls? The valley is yours

Of course Mürren, Schilthorn, Jungfrau, etc. are all options (but the Schilthorn and Jungfrau are not fully covered on any pass, and I can say from experience that the Jungfraujoch is not a culinary delight. Overpriced, overcrowded, and mediocre.

If they want to go further afield with their BO Pass, maybe the Grandhotel Giessbach for lunch on the terrace. Travel by train to Brienz and boat from there, or ride the boat all the way the length of Brienzersee from Interlaken. Great scenery on the way, then visit the historic hotel and the waterfall, and have a memorable lunch.

It's an easy walk from Murren to Gimmelwald, on a wide, paved path. Beautiful scenery and spend a little time exploring the little village of Gimmelwald. From there, you can take the cable car to Stechelberg.

Just have been exploring this area with Rick Steves trip planner yesterday! our goal - Gimmelwald. I cannot speak to how best to get there, but from everything I have heard, it is one of the "must see" places.

The scenery on the walk down to Gimmelwald is nice, but that wide paved path is actually a road used by farmers to transport their equipment around. And used by the construction vehicles currently engaged in the renovation of the Schilthorn cablecar.

When we were in Mürren last September we walked down to Gimmelwald to meet our son at the completion of the Via Ferrata climbing path. There was quite a lot of truck traffic on the paved road, and it was annoying. We got off the road onto the steep narrow trail down to Gimmelwald as soon as we could.
