Hi Friends,
I'm taking a trip to Europe next may and only have a limited amount of time to visit Switzerland. I have 3 or 4 days to spend there and I wanted to spend that time in the most scenic place in the Swiss Alps. I thought about Gimmewald and the Interlaken region, but I've also heard the Jungfrau region is good too. I would love recommendations from you experienced travelers.
Gimmelwald is in the Jungfrau region, directly across the valley. Interlaken could also be said to be in the Jungfrau region, although it is really in the "foot hills".
Do you have any recommendations?
Where will you be coming from? Most of the Alps are stunning throughout their range, from France to Slovenia, by way of Switzerland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Germany and Austria.
I actually think the most stunning part of the Alps are the slopes above Zermatt, but you have to get to a fairly high elevation to appreciate the scenery, and Zermatt itself is not very conveniently located.
One vote for Mürren, here. Allows for easy hike down to Gimmelwald or a gondola/cable up to Schilthorn, or simply enjoying the breathtaking scenery from its 5,300-ft homebase. Lots of trails and local beauty everywhere you look.
Murren can't be beat. You'll change trains at Interlaken Ost station and head up into the Lauterbrunnen Valley where you'll arrive about 20 minutes later. Murren sits on a shelf on the right hand side with Gimmelwald just below and the Schilthorn high above. Wengen sits on the left side of the valley and on thru Wengen you'll get to the Jungfrau.
murren it is then
