The Lauterbrunnen Valley Is the Most Famous, But Are There Others As Impressive?

Hello!
In a quest to avoid tourists at high season, we are wondering if there are other, less trafficked yet equally as stunning, regions of the Swiss Alps?
Thank you!

We enjoy Kandersteg, Bettmeralp, and Pontresina. None offer quite the package that the Lauterbrunnen Valley does, but all are fine destinations with good hiking and views.

It’s kind of like asking if there is someplace as stunning as Yosemite elsewhere in California. There are other places to see redwoods, and other places to see big cliff faces. But there is no other Yosemite.

Avoid tourists during high season? You realize that all of us here are tourists?

If you are looking to avoid crowds during high season, just to the west you can consider Frutigen or Kandersteg. To the east, Handegg or the Grimselsee area. But neither is like Lauterbrunnen Valley and you will always find tourists looking to avoid other tourists.

Travel4fun described it well— the Lauterbrunnen Valley is very similar to Yosemite in that it also is a glacial-carved valley with waterfalls and mountain peaks tha have nothing comparable in Switzerland or in California.

I really want to spend 4 days in the area in late may. Getting very mixed messages about weather. Should I go? Hiking is a must but not long or very high elevation. Taking cable car rides. Please help! I m ready to give up.

Janice do a Search here- the question has come up many times. Also review the posts under Switzerland.
Have a great trip.
