We were thinking of checking out of our hotel in Lausanne and taking a train to Montreux to catch the Chocolate Train. Could anyone advise if there would be a way to get off the train and onto the Golden Pass train to get to Spiez and then on to Murren in the same day? Would that be too much?
The tour ends at the Broc-Fabrique at 16:30. I see 8 to 9 connections to Muerren getting you there by 23:05. Yes, I'd say its too much.
I wouldn't bother with the special chocolate train (which is not so special). Just travel to Broc Fabrique to visit the Callier factory. Then you can visit Gruyeres as well, and then continue from Gruyeres to Murren. See www.sbb.ch for the schedules. Arriving in in Mürren at a reasonable time is possible if you do this on your own.
Note that getting to Murren will always involve lots of connections. Those are nothing to worry about though.
Thanks for the tips! I was thinking it might be better to do the chocolate and cheese visits on our own! And, maybe it would be easier to just stay in Lauterbrunnen and visit Murren and Jungfrau the next day.
I'll second Wengen's approach.
