Tell me something you’ve found visiting the Interlaken region…

… that I won’t find in a tour book, website, or travel video.

I guess you are relating to your previous post where you did get some suggestions. What people are looking for are specific questions. Most of us don't have time to type on and on about all we know about a specific region without knowing your budget, interests or even what you already know. And you might try phrasing that doesn't sound like a command.

I'll pipe up once more

I have years and years of experience visiting Switzerland (since 1971) and know many things about the Berner Oberland area and what's on offer.

What I don't have time to do is read all the tour books, websites and travel videos to see if what I know is not there. Sorry.

Good luck

The Mendelssohn Trail in Wengen is a scenic, 3–3.5 hour hiking route leading from Wengen to Wengernalp, honoring composer Felix Mendelssohn who sketched the Jungfrau massif in 1842. It features stunning valley views, including the popular Staubbachbänkli bench (a 30-min walk from Wengen station) and detailed info boards about his life.

This met a lot to me because I’ve played the piano since I was three years old, plus I took a photo of my husband standing behind him as he was sitting on the bench with the gorgeous view. We happened upon it. I invite you to just explore the beauty while you’re there. This area is not a checklist of “to do’s”.

ha ha, Claudia. Yes, I didn't even think of that. Last visit to Switzerland I came down with Covid, and relied on another Swiss legend...Ricola! Thank you, I'll be sure to grab one when there.

If you visit the Aareschlucht, return via the Aareschlucht Ost train station. It is on the side of the mountain and opens into a tunnel. Something you would see in a Bond movie.

Take in things at a slower pace and unexpected surprises can come your way. Those experiences are not typically shared in books and videos.

In Interlaken, I found a small church out of the center that was having a student chamber music recital. No tourists, just about a dozen parents and teachers. I saw a sign (not in English) while walking around I might have otherwise ignored. Very pleasant change from the usual.
