Taking a nap on the Glacier Express?

We're taking the Glacier Express from St Moritz to Zermatt, and then an hour after we arrive we'll enjoy a Gondola Fondue evening. So I'm hoping it will be a wonderful day, but I know that it will also be a very long one.

As scenic as the Glacier Express is, is there any section of the St Moritz-Zermatt route that is perhaps not that special? I'm thinking a nap at some point might be a good idea..... but I certainly don't want to miss out on any spectacular viewing. :)

Cindy, there is one point at which you go through a long tunnel, the Furka Tunnel, between Realp and Oberwald. It is 15Km long. I can't remember how long it takes to go through the tunnel, I would guess about 15 minutes. You could try a nap then, but who would wake you up at the far end?

LOL... totally true; I never thought of that. Maybe if there's a few less scenic areas, my husband and I could take turns having a nap?

Cindy, you can shave almost 2 hours off that trip by just taking the non-GEX train. You'll have extra time in Zermatt to checkin and walk about the town before your dinner. I'm sure the GEX scenery is beautiful...but you're in Switzerland where dramatic scenery is the norm. You might actually enjoy arriving and spending an extra 2 hours out and about IN that scenery rather than just watching it go by out the window.

Thanks Tim, but we've decided that the Glacier Express is actually worth it, just to save the many train changes otherwise. We are going the regional train route instead of taking the Bernina Express though. :)
