We will be renting a car in Locarno Switzerland in August. Most likely with EuropCar directly or via AutoEurope.
Will we be able to take the rental car across the border into Italy for a day trip?
This is assuming no Covid restrictions - I'm just asking about the legality of doing this with the rental car company and any extra fees. Would we need to show a "green card" proof of insurance at the border and do the rental companies usually provide this?
Absolutely no issue - and the likelihood of a border check is very low, by the way!
but be careful of the toll-booth free toll-roads around the area. I think there are 3. They photo the car entering and exiting and it is your responsibility to log on and pay within, if memory serves, 3 days.
Thank you for the replies. It sounds like it will not be an issue other than keeping an eye on paying tolls.
Out of an abundance of caution I would make sure the rental car company permits you to take one of their cars to Italy.
