Switzerland Train Travel from Lucerne-Wengen-Zurich

Hi,

My husband and I are staying in Lucerne for two days and then onto Wengen from three nights to explore all there is to explore in the Lauterbrunnen Valley. We need to travel to Zurich to stay our last night before boarding our plane the next day. What is the best travel route from Lucerne to Wengen then Wengen to Zurich?

Help is greatly appreciated.

Part of the Golden Pass Line runs from Luzern to Interlaken on the Luzern-Interlaken Express (then continues to Zweisimmen and Mongreux). Use the SBB route planner to figure out itineraries and timetables that include the Luzern Interlaken Express train: http://fahrplan.sbb.ch/bin/query.exe/en

SBB journey planner will route through Bern on your return, as it is the fastest route, even though it is the long way as far as distance traveled. The track between Bern and Zurich is the main corridor through the Swiss lowlands, relatively flat and straight runs, so the trains run a lot faster and there is enough traffic to justify limited stop express trains. So unless you specify "via Luzern" that is the way the route planner will send you. You already came that way from Luzern, so if you want to do the same route in the other direction, just tell them.

Luzern to Wengen has only one logical route over the Bruenig pass to Interlaken, then Lauterbrunnen to Wengen.
