Switzerland to Italy travel options and itinerary

Hi all!

I am planning a 11 day trip to parts of Switzerland and Italy. In Switzerland, I want to spend just 4-5 days at max, in Berner Oberland, (as I'm not terribly fond of cold weather). In Italy, I want to go to Rome and to the Amalfi coast, as I have done Florence & Venice in the past.

My issue is that I can't find any convenient connections from Berner Oberland to Naples. Would highly appreciate help on this!

Note : I start my trip from Zurich airport and end it at Rome airport. My ideal itinerary is Zurich - Berner Oberland (4) - Amalfi coast (3) - Rome (3).

Hello. Where are you looking? What sort of connections are you looking for (I guess train)?
If you are looking for train connections, then the best place is: www.bahn.de
But, as for all rail connections you have to know the mname of the station you are going from or to, "Berner Oberland" is a region and will not be listed. I just did a search on www.bahn.de from "Interlaken Ost" to "Napoli" and found many trains, all taking over 9 hours.
As this is a long journey, another option is to return to Zürich and fly to Napoli. You will still take some time to get to Zürich aorport, so it will still be a long journey.

Hi Nigel - I am travelling end of July for 2 weeks.

Hi Chris - Thanks for suggesting bahn.de! I am planning to have my base at Gimmelwald. I am looking for night trains ideally so I save day time as much as possible. Are there any night trains at all from Switzerland to Italy? I couldn't find any.

No, there are no overnight trains from Switzerland to Italy but you can connect to an overnight train that runs from Milan to Naples. I still would compare flight options at www.skyscanner.com.

End of July you don't need to be worried about the cold weather in the Berner Oberland unless you are at the top of mountains. Mürren, Wengen and Gimmelwald will all be plenty warm, as will the Lauterbrunnen Valley.

You absolutely, positively, won't be cold in Rome. It will be blistering.
