We are planning to travel Switzerland the last week in May 2026. We have heard that the weather can change during that time and seeing the mountains can change day to day. Thus far we have not made any hotel reservations so that we can keep our options open, depending on weather around theJungfrau and around the Matterhorn.
Will we have any trouble getting hotel rooms in the small towns by the mountains if we do not pre-booked now? Appreciate any information. Ron and Kathe
In my experience you can always find somewhere to stay, but you might not like the price or the proximity to your interests. You can look at Lauterbrunnen or other villages around there (Jungfrau region) on sites like Booking.com. Today prices seem to be about $2,000 +/- for May 24 to May 30. In Zermatt the prices are about 50% higher, but more accommodations appear to be available on those dates. In the mountains in May (shoulder season between skiing and hiking) weather can change day by day and hour by hour. You can ski on the glacier above Zermatt all year around usually, but most lifts close in late April. You don't mention where else you are going in Switzerland doing other things too at lower elevations so that will also be a factor..Good luck.
