I am looking at travelling to Switzerland in late April 2027 around 20th April for about 15 days. I was looking at basing in Wengen as i have 4 people and can get a great chalet deal for those days. We aren't mad adventurers and just want to steadily sight see as it takes us with a few activities thrown in. I understand some things will be closed but unsure exactly what they are. We have done Schilthorn previously but would like to do jungfraujoch, Murren and Grindelwald etc I understand people say April isn't great but i still want to enjoy some cool weather and if it snows that's great also and rain not an issue, just deal with it. We have stayed in Wengen before and it is so close to these places in the mountain and can easily explore other places around such as Bern, Thun, Lucerne etc by train. My questions are mainly about being able to visit places in the mountains as mentioned and is this still practical around that time in April? Was considering a BOP and maybe a Half fare card also for travel, would love people input please. Thankyou

Jungfraujoch is always open and you can always get to the various mountain villages.
Männlichen will probably be closed, perhaps Allmendhubel, for sure Schynige Platte.
You can check here when it is closer to the end of 2026 to see the 2027 schedule.
You will find various restaurants closed as well, and some hotels - but it sounds like you have found accommodation already.

The "Great Deal" is because it is mud season. The Männlichen is closed, the WAB to Kleine Scheidegg closes sometimes too. Most higher hiking paths will be closed. Dirty snow, brown dead gras, not a lot of flowers, cows still in their stables...
This is a time of year you actually rather be somewhere lower, by the lakes.

Yes it is a great deal for a base for 4 people. We don't intend to spend the whole time in the mountain of course but getting accommodation for 4 people in the lower valley location that is affordable is near impossible. We intend to do a lot around other lake areas and towns like Bern, Thun Brienz etc . We never intended on doing long hikes in the mountains so any positive ideas would be appreciated regarding options. I really want to take my two adult children up to Shilthorn which we have personally done before and also Jungfrauyoch which i haven't. Thanks

Lower elevation locations, like the ones you mention, will be very beautiful - green, spring flowers/blossoms, cows in fields. You can go on the boats, see the waterfalls, Ballenberg will be open, take the scenic train to Luzern, etc. We had visitors at the end of April this year and the weather happened to be very beautiful, all the canola fields were in full bloom, we did some fun mountain excursions and walks at lower elevations. They continually commented on how beautiful it was, and things were not crowded - lots of room on trains and gondolas. It can be a really nice time to come to Switzerland, and with the expectations you have it sounds like a good match.

Thankyou so much for the reply. Yes that was my thoughts to travel around to those other places as well do whatever i can in the mountains that is available. Is my choice of base for the first half of my trip sound suitable to you? it seems quite central really for train travel and maintain excursions. Thankyou
