Switzerland/Italy

Good morning. Would love some tips, please! Flying into Zurich and out of Turin in June. We have two weeks and want to travel by train. Spending first night in Zurich. Considering Interlaken as a base to see some of Switzerland's natural wonders. Feeling overwhelmed by choice! Want to hear suggestions on what not to miss that we can get to by train and/or day tours. Thank you!

Instead of an overnight in Zurich, go directly from the airport to Luzern. It is only 1 1/4 hours by direct train from the airport. Stay there 3 nights, the train to Interlaken Ost, Lauterbrunnen, then one of the mountain towns like Muerren or Wengen. Stay 3 or 4 nights. Then train to Stresa, Italy stay for at least 2 nights. Extra credit if you take the old way to Brig via Kandersteg.

Don't know what you have in mind for the rest of Italy.

Sam is right….get out of Zurich asap……not that it isn’t a wonderful city but you want to get into the heart of Switzerland and see those alps……go to Lucerne and stay at Hotel Balances, right on the Reuss river and ask for a balcony room……delightful and take a boat excursion to see the countryside……then on to Lauterbrunnen!

Yes skip Zurich. Assuming you arrive in the morning, just keep moving. Luzern is just 1.25 hours directly from the Zurich Airport rail station. Interlaken is at the foot of the mountains, but not in them. Thats why Lauterbrunnen and other towns up the valley are recommended.

Thank you, everyone! Any thoughts on getting from Switzerland to Turin and how many days there?

For Turin, via train, it is easily a 6 hour journey. Turin is a lovely city. You can easily do a full 3-4 nights there. While there, do not miss an easy day trip to visit Sacra di San Michele.

Also, do not base out of Interlaken. Get into the valley.
