Switzerland in mid March

My husband and I have an opportunity to tack on a side trip to Switzerland next spring while he is already on Europe for business. We love Lauterbrunnen and Wengen......is March too cold to enjoy a visit there? Our first trip there was in August so we have no idea what March will be like. We love to hike and are afraid it ill be too cold to do much of anything but ski at that time. While we like skiing we prefer nice long hikes.
Any good ideas for other destinations at this time of year? Maybe northern Italy?
Thanks!

Mid March is ski season in the Berner Oberland. So it will be quite lively. Getting a ski pass will also allow you to ride all the lifts including the Schilthornbahn, but not the Jungfraujochbahn above Kleine Scheidegg. I have skied there in January wearing only a vest, so it is not necessarily bone chilling cold. Try the sledding runs. The valley by Interlaken is mostly snow free.

In addition to the ski pistes, they also maintain groomed winter walking trails for non-skiers. However, once the weather starts to rise consistently above freezing, they can get kind of slushy. The conditions are great in January, but it may get a little wet by March. But who knows, your visit could coincide with a cold spell that keeps the trails dry and frozen.

For hiking, too cold. Ice and snow is still present at higher altitudes and exposed areas can present danger. Other than hiking, still beautiful!
