Switzerland in Late September - 5 day itinerary

Hello - My wife and I will be traveling to Switzerland and Italy in late September/early October. We are flying into Zurich from LA and will be allocating 5 days to be in Switzerland. We are then spending the reminder of our trip (9 days) in Italy. We are taking off for our flight back to LA from Rome. Please advise on ideal itinerary and what is the best route/best things to see considering this time of year?

Go to Luzern straight way from from Zurich airport. It is only a bit over an hour on a direct train. Stay 2 nights. Spend next day on boat ride on the lake and perhaps go to the top of M Rigi.
Then train to Berner Oberland, preferrably to Wengen or Muerren. Next 2 days exploring the mountains by train or lift.
Then train to Spiez to get an EC train direct to Milan. Now you are in Italy.

Totally agree with Sam! We visited once in mid October and couldn’t have enjoyed our stays in Wengen and Luzern any more than we did!

Camping on to this discussion - We want to do Lake Como (Varenna) for two nights then 5 days in Switzerland - thinking Lucerne and Pontresina - based on things I've read on the RS forums. Was thinking flying into Milan and flying out of Zurich and taking only trains.

What does the group suggest for best places to see in Switzerland giving these logistics? We're not big hikers but can do a little. Would like to go to the tops of a mountain or two on lifts, etc. We can start in Milan and end in Zurich or visa versa. We're traveling in early/mid October.
