Switzerland in late May/Early June??

We are planning a trip for lay May /early June of next year, staying a couple nights in Zermatt, and a week in Grindelwald area.

What can we expect from the weather this time of year and tourism in general?

Are the fields soggy from melting snow still? Is there rain or snow, and how cold is it? We primarily want to just enjoy the beautiful hiking and tranquility of the Interlaken area so definitely don’t want soggy fields and ice.

Is this a super busy time of year?

We went in late October and the weather although cold was super beautiful. I’m reading conflicting reports on the weather this time of year.

A little early to expect dry ground for hikes- been there, done that-no crowds… mid to late June much better….but this is a great trip- did it in 2019… any help needed reach out and we can talk.

I have been to Switzerland in late May/early June, July and August and a third time in September. May and June still had snow and ice on the trails up high in the Berner Oberland and yes it was soggy and slippery at times. It was hard to get clear days to see the mountains and once I went up on the lifts it was hard to get good views for photos looking down. The cities however were tourist light and very nice. Not too hot and no air conditioning needed at hotels. July and August were GREAT for up high hiking and mountain top photos and just sitting and watching the views. Many days I got clear blue skies with no clouds in the morning and into the early afternoons. Some days were clear and blue skies all day. The cities and restaurants were packed with tourists but any day in a Swiss city is awesome. It was very hot some days and then cooled off for 2-3 days. September was also great for hiking, pretty good for blue sky days and lighter for tourists but still had more than May and early June. That is why I have gone 3 times to Switzerland to eventually get ALL the perks that it offers. On my next trip I will go very early September for lighter tourists but hopefully lots of blue sky days and great high mountain hiking and views.
