Switzerland in December - suggestions please

Hello,

My husband n I are planning a trip to Europe around Christmas and new year , 15 days from Dec 18th onwards .
We will be flying to Munich (3 nights stay ) , taking the train to Florence (3 nights stay ) and then to Rome (4 nights stay) . We would like to visit Switzerland on our way from Munich to Florence and spend around 2-3 nights there. We want to experience the snow. We don't know how to ski but would like to try some sport / hiking / sledding.we are also interested in the thermal spas.
Please suggest a suitable location in Switzerland , considering easy connections from Munich and to Florence thereafter.

Thank u

Switzerland is a little bit out of your way and the train connections not the best between Munich and Florence. If you want to experience snow, suggest Seefeld, Austria which is an easy train ride with one connection directly south of Munich. Seefeld has winter hiking, tobogganing, snow-shoeing. Austria is also less expensive than Switzerland.

From Seefeld it is a short train ride to Innsbruck, then an EC train to Bologna, with another connection to Florence.

If your heart is still set on Switzerland, that is certainly possible. Suggest the EC train toward Zurich. Get off at St Margrethen, then trains to Landquart and Davos, or Chur and St Moritz. These will have all of the winter activities. From either these, you can get trains to Tirano, Italy over the Bernina Pass. There are hourly trains, but the once per day Bernina Express has panorama coaches. There is a supplement (reservation) required for this train. From Tirano there is a train to Milan that runs along the east shore of Lake Como. At Milan, there are frequent direct fast trains to Florence.

December 18 might be a bit early for snow in Seefeld. I've been around there at that time and only saw a few flakes, the only real depth was way up high. The scheduled flights for the ski market to nearby Innsbruck airport only get started that weekend and a lot of the passengers then will be people going to work the season.
