Switzerland in April - itinerary for 5 days

We have 5-6 days to explore Switzerland after the end of a tour. We will be starting from and returning to Zurich. I understand that early April is not an optimal time to visit, but it is what it is. We do not ski, but are up for hiking. We're also interested in traveling on the Glacial Express. One of Rick Steves' comments says that Zermatt is mostly shut down in April. I assume other places will be similar. What is the best route/best things to see considering the time of year?

I really loved Lucerne. It's a cute town with ample historical and cultural interest (short jaunt from ZUR) but you are easily able to do day trips to mountains.
Montreux and environs are similar--pleasant town with views and vineyards, and great proximity for day trips.

Some cable cars and mountain trains close for maintenance, and in the mountain villages some hotels and restaurants will be closed. But not everything will be closed, so don't despair. Things will be running normally in cities and towns. You'll just have to do a bit more research to see what isn't open, and perhaps plan on more lower elevation activities. That said, I think Top of Europe and Titlis are open all year
