That budget seems a little low for Switzerland, but perhaps someone will have good ideas for you. Have you looked at hostels?

Hotel Staubbach in Lauterbrunnen gets good reviews. In Lucerne I have stayed at Hotel des Alpes and The B&B and liked both.

The trains running from Lucerne to Interlaken and then to Lauterbrunnen are all scenic.

With 3 nights in Lucerne, you should have time (weather permitting) to visit Mt. Rigi. The cruises to the little towns lining Lake Lucerne are very enjoyable.

I would forget Gstaad because once you enter Lauterbrunnen valley you will not want to leave. Weather permitting, do the Jungfraujoch one morning (very early). Spend your other two days on the many gorgeous hiking trails. Be sure to consider visiting the Shilthorn or Trummelbach Falls.

If you were spending a week in Lauterbrunnen, then I would consider visiting Thun or other places in the larger area. But with only 3 days I would spend them all in the Lauterbrunnen area.

Hiren,

I definitely agree with the others, that your hotel budget is "low" for Switzerland. Have you checked the cost of the Jungfraujoch trip for three people?

Staying three nights in each location will only provide two full days of touring, so you won't have a lot of time for scenic train rides. During your time in the Lauterbrunnen area, visiting the Jungfraujoch will take at least half a day or more. I'd suggest checking the weather prior to that trip, as you won't see much scenery if the top is fogged in. On your second day of touring there, you could take the Cable cars and BLM train to Mürren or perhaps the Cable Car to the famous Schilthorn (one of the James Bond movies was partially filmed there).

For your time in Lucerne, the trips to Riga / Titlis will take the better part of day. You could also take some cruises around the lake, but try to leave some time for exploring Lucerne also, as it's a beautiful city.

I wouldn't bother with a day trip to Bern. You don't have time.

I really enjoyed the Valley Hostel in Lauterbrunnen. I stayed in a side building with our own double room and a shared bathroom and kitchen for the other four double rooms on our floor. Quiet and good for families, with a beautiful view on the balcony.

I believe that might be close to your budget.

Here's the website for the hostel in Lucerne: http://www.youthhostel.ch/de/hostels/luzern A three bed room at this hostel is 112 Swiss Francs which is 101 Euros. Switzerland is very expensive in every way--lodging, food, etc.

Look into using the Family ticket for your trip to Mt. Titlis via the cogwheel train from the Lucerne main train station.
