Hi,

I was in Switzerland from October 10 to October 16 last year, and the foliage in the Lauterbrunnen Valley and around Lake Thun and Lake Brienz was lovely. This would probably have been even more spectacular the following week, if possible.

Hi, I am a hobby photographer and can share some of my experiences with you. As a Canadian I find the colours here to be less vibrant than I am used to, and red is sadly lacking, but the surrounding scenery more than makes up for it.

I would recommend going by train (and occasionally bus) so that you can really look around you as you travel. I do all my photo trips this way, bringing my camera gear in a backpack so that I can get out and hike when I want to.

Here are a few locations that I like. I am adding a Google photos link to show you what I shot there (remember, I am only an amateur, but it can give you an idea of what it looks like and when).

Below is a description of the photo locations with the date and time of day when applicable. Hopefully I have done everything correctly and the link will work: https://photos.app.goo.gl/4B3pdqTBS1XUiSA78

  1. Lauterburnnen valley Oct. 9, 1:12pm
    River, church, waterfall -
Taken from the train just as it leaves the Lauterbrunnen station for Wengen. Sit on the right side by a window that can open (windows are tinted and will change the colour of your photo). If you go within an hour or so on either side of noon, then the sun will be shining through the waterfall like this.

  2. Wengen Oct.25 11:37am Mountains in layers -
Taken from the bench area at the end of the Staubbach-Bänkli walk (telephoto lens). Here is a link to the walks in Wengen.

  1. Church in Wengen Nov. 9th

  2. Church and town of Unterseen and the Aare river as seen from the Interlaken side of the river. Nov. 9, - you can see that if it was taken earlier in the season the trees would have been better. Walk along the Aare river from the Harder Kulm funicular station.

  3. Kandersteg, barn with mountains behind. Oct. 18 -
Fall colours in the valley and snow at higher elevations. I like to walk from the train station toward the Scout camping area, and keep walking along any Wanderweg in the area where the light and scenery look good.

  4. Valley between Frutigen and Kandersteg. Church in Kandergrund. Oct. 20 -
I like to go to Kandersteg by train, spend time there then head back toward Frutigen by bus so that I can get off at any stop along the valley floor that looks interesting, like this church in Kandergrund.

These are just some of the locations close to where I live. Switzerland has a lot more to offer. If you look at the foliage map link that Carrie posted you can you can also see what else Switzerland tourism suggests.

A few locations still on my photo bucket list:
