Switzerland with Eurail Pass

Hi all,

I have a few tight transfers traveling from Zurich HB to Interlaken West. I have Global Eurail Pass. I will be traveling on InterCity and InterCity Express trains. To my knowledge these trains do not require reservations. Does that mean I am not require to purchase reservations? If so, will my Eurail Pass will suffice if the ticket collector comes around as long as the trains and dates are properly documented?

Thank you for your help,

Reed

It is correct that you are not required to purchase reservations or any type of boarding pass. Just make sure the dates are properly filled on the Eurail pass, hop on, and find an available seat. See also http://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/trains/using-your-rail-pass. That pass will cover you as far as Interlaken and also covers lake boats on the same travel day. As you travel up the Lauterbrunnen valley from there, show the pass to get a 25% discount on Jungfrau region train tickets and some lift tickets.

with a few exceptions such as trains going internationally and some special tourist trains, no trains in Switzerland either offer or require reservations.

just hop on if your paper work is all in order but do get AND VALIDATE those tickets beyond Lauterbrunnen.
