Quick question...staying in Grindelwald for 4 nights in December over New Years....Hotel Bodmi or Hotel Steinbock?? I am familiar with the different locales of both but looking for input prior to finalizing. Thank you.
My quick answer: Hotel Bodmi.
The longer version: we have not stayed at either, but we did have dinner on the terrace at Hotel Bodmi the last time we were in Grindelwald (20 years ago!!) and I loved the views from there, the quality of the food, and the general ambiance. I would probably choose to stay there if we ever needed a hotel in Grindelwald. It would be quieter than the Steinbock, as it is above town on the Terrassenweg. (Which means it would be easier if you had a car to get there and around the area).
I am curious how you narrowed your choice down to just these two?
Thanks Lola....Most places are either filled or ask 5-7 night stays. Bodmi put me on wait list and one became available and Steinbock offered 4 night stay. We will be in Murren next week. We are unsure of the distance to Bodmi ie...walk home from dinner etc if we opt to eat downtown.
Got it. The 5-7 minimum stay requirement is pretty standard over major holidays in ski season. But no worries, those are both good choices.
There is a paved pedestrian path from “downtown” up to Hotel Bodmi, but it is uphill, and I wonder if that might be slippery for your walk down for dinner. Or maybe they keep it clear and ice-free for pedestrians—-You could ask the hotel. Or I see that the room price includes a bus pass for getting around.
You might want to eat dinner there at least one night—-take a look at their online menu and see if it appeals to you. I was going to suggest you take half-board there, but it seems they are no offering that.
You are going during the absolute busiest time of the year.
We cant wait!! We LOVE the area and are looking forward to our visit!
Thanks, Ben
