There are probably many, but here is one I know of in Charmey. September 24 this year.

Geneva is the closest airport, but there are more direct flights from North America to Zurich, which is not too much further away.
Since it is near Gruyeres, you won't have any problem finding cheese (or chocolate).
BTW, it is a fall festival where the cows come down from pasturing the summer in the high mountain meadows. My sources tell me that the cheese, made from the first milkings when the cows just enter the Alpine meadows and feast on the fresh herbs, goes for a premium.

There is a lot going on with the Herens breed of cows in Valais, east/northeast of Lake Geneva. The biggest events are the "cow fights" where the "queen of the cows" is chosen. There are festivals throughout the area that celebrate the cows and you can see them driven up to the mountains in late spring - May and June. Here is a page from the Valais information page that you can use as a jumping-off point for your research. Most of this area is not very touristy and you can see very authentic community gatherings and festivals at all times of the year...we have been to many and it's really an undiscovered corner of Switzerland.

You know, there's a name for taking the animals up into the high pastures...Transhumance.
