My wife and I are driving from Zurich to Verona at the end of August. We're looking for classic Swiss villages to visit, great 3 or 4 star hotels, and interesting things to see and do. Any suggestions? Thx. /JM

Appenzell is a wonderful classic swiss village to enjoy. It is surrounded by hills and great hiking trails. A short drive from Zurich to the east. Lfew visitors, we loved it.

Head into Italy via Landeck, to Nauders and into the Val Venosta, a valley that stretches to Meran/Merano. Loaded with gorgeous scenery, medieval abbeys incl. St. John’s in very close by Mustair, Switzerland, more castles than I can name (including Churburg, Tirolo, Juval, Castelbello, etc. etc.). The small, unchanged, medieval walled town of Glurns/Glorenza.
