Switzerland arrival logistics

I wanted to ask the group their input on the following 2 options for getting to the BO area. Once there we will be remaining in the regions for 8-9 nights.

Option one: Direct flight from Charlotte to Munich. Flight arrives 0710. We would then take the direct train from Munich to Zurich. From Zurich we would need to train to BO. Not sure if we should spend that night in Zurich or push on to Murren.
Pros: Direct flight. No long layovers. Less chance of lost luggage or a missed connection.

Cons: Could be a long day

Option two: Fly Charlotte to Zurich. Would need to stop in London with a 2 1/2 hr layover. Arrive in Zurich 1430. Would then need to decided if we would spend the night in Zurich or push onward that day

Thank-you in advance.

Do the Zurich flight and go all the way to Murren that afternoon. We’ve done this many times and it’s really not a big deal. We fly from Nashville so we have similar layover issues. The train from Munich to Murren is fine if you’re already there in Munich (we’ve done it) but adding that onto a flight is a lot in my opinion. And anything to avoid an unnecessary night in Zurich would get my vote.

The direct flight is tempting, but consider how much time you would spend waiting in Munich for the next direct train. I don’t think you could make the 8:54, buy the time you get off the plane, go through immigration, and take the S-Bahn to the Munich Hauptbahnhof. The next direct train departs at 10:54, so you could have around 2 hours to pass at the train station before boarding the train for the 3.5-hour ride to Zurich.

Are the two flight choices comparable in price?

Hi Lola,
No the direct flight would be less money. My husband is very tall so on the way over we would need to book economy plus for the extra leg room. Currently the direct has bulkhead seats in economy which would give him leg room (we have had these seats on similar overseas flights). So the direct flight would be $600 in total for the flight.

Even with money savings I wouldn’t advise the Munich route. We do this every year because we go to Austria for a bit and then live in Murren for the summer. We drive 2 hours to Munich main station from where we go in Austria and then train to Murren. It’s an extremely long day, without the addition of an overseas flight. There is zero chance I’d do it. The flight into Zurich with train to Murren, have done many times. No issue.

Just a suggestion but looking at google flights, I would do the Charlotte to Dulles, only 1 1/2 hour flight time with a 1 hour 15 minute layover in Dulles and then direct to Zurich. We come from the west coast so our flight days are horribly long and always convoluted so this seems almost too easy.
