HI all,
I'm planning a Swiss/France trip Aug 30-Sept 12 for 13 days. I would like to spend a week in Switzerland and then spend sometime in Annecy and Chamonix. I have not bought airline tickets yet.
Possible itinerary:
Aug 31 Arrive Zurich train to Luzern spend 2 nights
Sept 2 Leave for Murren spend 3 nights.
Sept 5 Leave for Lausanne or Montreaux spend 2 nights
Sept 7 leave for Annecy spend 3 nights(really looking forward to going here)
Sept 10 Leave for Chamonix spend 1 nights
Sept 11Leave for Geneva spend 1 night --Fly out of Geneva on Sept 12
I'm open to thoughts. I like the idea of spending a few days in each place to minimize fatigue and travel costs. Is this the best itinerary, am I missing anything, is it better to go to Chamonix first and then to Annecy before flying out of Geneva. What are my best rail pass options? Trying to make this trip as affordable as possible. Thank you for your help, I appreciate it very much!!
You are showing about 186 CHF of tickets just going between your Swiss destinations. Assuming you will also want to take some of the lift journeys while in Luzern, Muerren, and Montreux, you are bound to top 240 CHF. Then your best value would be the 30-day Half Fare Card for 120 CHF. An 8-day Swiss Travel pass is 376 CHF, and you still have to pay at least 50% of the cost of the Schilthornbahn above Muerren, and 75% of the cost of the Jungfraujochbahn above Wengen. The Half Fare Card gives you 50% discount for all of these, as well as boat rides and local transportation.
Chamonix to Geneva airport is best with one of the local airport van transport companies.
