Hi all! I'm beginning to plan a 14 trip to Switzerland and Italy. I'm flying out of Boston, MA into Zurich and out of Rome. I've decided the two places I am eager to visit are Grindelwald and Lake Como but unsure of must see's in between. Any recommendations would be so appreciated as this is my very first time traveling abroad :)
What you are asking is for us to write you a guidebook when there are plenty of books to chose from. You can start with Steves' books on Switzerland and Italy. Follow that with travel DVDs on these areas. Everything including should be available through you local public library. Are you doing your trip this year or next? Once you have reviewed the material you should have some specific questions that you can ask here. And you can review some of the questions and answers that have been discussed here. You need to build a little background knowledge.
Our itinerary for our Switzerland-Italy trip:
Flew into Zurich, train to Montreux for 3 nights
Mürren 2 nights
Lucerne 2 night
Train to Lucca (long day) 2 nights
Vernazza Cinque Terre 4 nights
Rome 2 nights
You could easily plug in a few nights in Lake Como rather than the Lucca/Vernazza stops and add in few nights in Florence on the way to Rome.
This was not our first trip to Italy, we had already been to Lake Como, Venice, Florence, etc. That’s why they are not included in this itinerary of Italy. I would definitely add Florence to your plan!
